Curation

My time as a curator for a nonprofit venue involves engaging with the local community on an intimate level. The themes I develop don’t just provide exposure for styles artists may already be exploring—they also open space for ideas that might’ve been lying dormant, unnoticed even by the artists themselves, until awakened by the right challenge. Prioritizing artists from the South Florida area has deepened my understanding of this region—its environment, history, and the many communities that call it home, including my own. Each exhibition involves working closely with artists on selections, shaping the themes their work will live within, and coordinating installation and related events.

  • This exhibition is a celebration of the diverse styles and genres that have evolved within the world of illustration, from nostalgic cartoons to cutting-edge contemporary works. Each piece is a testament to the evolution of the animated and cartoon forms that many of us admired growing up—forms that have inspired countless artists to pursue the craft of illustration. Featured artists aim to showcase the dynamic blend of traditional and digital elements that shape today’s art landscape, bringing together a rich array of  specialties in  graffiti, comics, pop art, and digital art to offer a unique perspective on how cartoons and illustrations not only reflect our world but also influence it.

  • Step into the ethereal realm of Hal Yaskulka’s latest solo exhibition, "In Between Reality and Dreams," where the boundaries between the earthly and the celestial blur into an exquisite tapestry of color and form. Born amidst the vibrant streets of Brooklyn, New York, Yaskulka’s journey as a figurative painter has been nothing short of extraordinary, transcending mere canvases to explore the very essence of existence.

Drawing from a life touched by profound loss and a relentless pursuit of meaning, Yaskulka’s brushstrokes carry the weight of his personal history. From his formative years studying art to the prestigious accolades he's garnered, including the esteemed International Society of Acrylic Painters award and the coveted Best in Show at Beverly Hills' national competition "Affaire in the Gardens," his artistic evolution has been a testament to resilience and introspection.

Yaskulka’s work has graced the walls of renowned galleries across the nation, from the West Valley Art Museum in Sun City, Arizona, to the Harris Meisel Gallery in Santa Barbara, California. His creations have not only captivated the art world but have also found a place in the limelight of Hollywood, with commissioned pieces adorning the sets of acclaimed films such as "The Departed," "Rush Hour," and "Maiden Heist," among others.

Yet, amidst the glitz and glamor, Yaskulka’s art remains deeply rooted in the profound experiences that have shaped his worldview. The tragic loss of both his parents, his father on his 17th birthday and his mother in the World Trade Center attack, propelled him on a spiritual odyssey, seeking solace and understanding amidst the chaos of life.

"In Between Reality and Dreams" serves as a portal to the liminal spaces that exist beyond the confines of everyday perception. Yaskulka’s canvases beckon viewers to explore the realms between consciousness and the sublime, where the intangible becomes palpable and the mundane is infused with magic. Each brushstroke whispers of a journey undertaken, a quest for beauty and interconnectedness that transcends the boundaries of time and space.

As you immerse yourself in Yaskulka’s visionary world, prepare to be transported to a place where heaven and earth intertwine, where dreams dance on the cusp of reality, and where the true essence of existence reveals itself in all its splendor.
